James R. Eells, M.D., Associate Chair, Life Sciences Screening Committee
James Eells, MD, is a respected Las Vegas internist, a former U.S. Air Force physician with the rank of Major, and a longtime resident of Nevada. Not only is Dr. Eells an esteemed member of Nevada’s professional community, but he is actively involved in a number of community and civic organizations as well.

Born in New York, Dr. Eells moved to Nevada as a child and began working at age 11 to help support his family. He gained a lifetime of experience during his two-year Mormon mission to Chile and upon his return, worked his way through college at UNLV. Upon completion of his degree, Dr. Eells was accepted to the Nevada School of Medicine and was awarded a full medical scholarship by the U.S. Air Force.

After completing officer training, Lieutenant Eells completed four years of medical school, an internship and residency in internal medicine at University Medical Center in Las Vegas. Upon completion of his medical training, Eells served at Nellis Air Force Base, where he helped open the on-base Mike O’Callahan Hospital. While serving in the Air Force, Dr. Eells worked his way up to Chief of Medicine and as a major, supervised colonels and oversaw numerous departments including cardiology, neurology, dermatology, and family medicine.

Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1996, Dr. Eells worked at University Medical Center’s Internal Medicine clinic until 2003, when he went into private practice. While his practice thrived, Dr. Eells decided to leave traditional practice due to the high rate of malpractice suits and dwindling insurance reimbursement payments. In December 2006, he opened one of the first concierge practices in Las Vegas, MDVIP, a low volume practice that allows him the time to provide excellent, high-quality care to more satisfied patients.

In addition to his busy medical career, Dr. Eells is married and the father of four children. He is actively involved in his church, where he serves as a young men’s counselor. Since 2001, Dr. Eells has served as a leader of Troop 246 of the Boy Scouts of America. He also enjoys spending time with his family, backpacking, mountain biking and reading.
