A great economic development promoter and researcher dies at 66.
Keith Schwer, a member of the Nevada Economic Development Advisory Board (NEDAB), died Thursday, Dec. 3, of cancer. He was the director of the Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and was known for working toward economic diversification in Nevada.
"Keith was a dear friend and a great supporter of everything NEDAB stands for," says Stephen Brock, president and CEO of Public Company Management Corporation and the founder of NEDAB. "He will be greatly missed."
Schwer held a public conference every June and December to outline his economic forecast for the next six months, and co-workers said that earlier this week, he was still going over the details of the upcoming conference.
Schwer "always had the good of the city and state close to his heart and was committed to what he did," Bob Potts, assistant director of UNLV’s Center for Business and Economic Research, told the Las Vegas Sun. "His career defined him. He loved economics."
Schwer is survived by his wife, three daughters, and three grandchildren.
- Nevada has the potential to become the premier destination in the U.S. for companies looking to enter the capital markets.
- Nevada corporations across a variety of industries can benefit from participating in the capital markets as a way to build long-term shareholder value, access capital, attract and retain good employees, increase visibility and improve business practices.
- An increased number of Nevada corporations successfully entering and sustaining participation in the capital markets will create diversified economic growth, increase the number of companies that physically relocate to Nevada, create new jobs and increase revenue for the state.
- Outreach to other economic development groups, legislators, regulators, business owners, and business and industry leaders.
- Educational Programs for companies seeking to learn about capital markets and the advantages of domiciling in Nevada as a private or public company.
- Policy Research and Recommendations to make Nevada even more attractive as a home for companies wanting to participate in capital markets.
- Locally-based Industry Screening Committees will help identify and screen companies that are good candidates for participation in the public markets.
NEDAB has already announced several of the committee members and has been garnering support among business and government leaders who have committed to working with the committee toward diversified economic growth for Nevada.

Nevada EDAB Proclamation
PCMC Seminar
"The NEDAB is an exciting opportunity to help our economy grow, strengthen and diversify. Nevada must maintain a competitive, economic edge over our neighboring states - which are also experiencing unprecented growth.
We offer favorable tax and regulatory structure to small business issuers domiciled in Nevada. I am honored to serve with such a diverse group of individuals who share in the belief that Nevada's economic environment and
attractiveness must remain second to none."

James Eells, MD, is a respected Las Vegas internist, a former U.S. Air Force physician with the rank of Major, and a longtime resident of Nevada. Not only is Dr. Eells an esteemed member of Nevada’s professional community, but he is actively involved in a number of community and civic organizations as well.
"From a public policy perspective, I believe knowledge - based companies bring the kind of high-paying 'good' jobs that we need in Nevada. A few have discovered that Nevada's capital formation laws are amongst the best in America, but many more struggle because they don't know our secret. Collectively, the people who have already committed to join or work with the NEDAB not only "get it", but have the experience, connections, resources and motivation to execute the plan."
